Bonefishing in Cuba
| A new bone fishing destination has opened on Cayo Romano. Catches
of 15-25 bonefish per day are already being reported.
Price $2100 per person plus the cost of getting to Cayo Romano. The price is for 7 nights and 5 days of fishing. This is an unbelievable area that can be expanded to many different bone fishing possibilities. Currently, we are basing our operation in the city of Moron, province of Ciego de Avila. The price of $2100 includes the hotel, three meals per day, the fishing, the boat, the guide and the transportation to the fishing area. Not included are things like flights to get there and drinks in the boat or at the hotel. The fishing area is about an hour and 15 minutes from the hotel. If one desires, we can arrange to stay in a luxury hotel about 20 minutes from the fishing area.
Moron Hotel and Cayo Coco Hotel The boats used are either Bass Tracker are Cuban made Falcon boats. The guides are all experienced guides but mostly with bass fishing. The guides have lots of experience poling boats at both Lake Redonda and Lake Buffalow in this area.
Cuba is without question one of the top five destinations for the bonefish in the world. After a little more exploration, it just may turn out to be number 1. There are days from time to time that a good fly fisherman might catch 50-60 bonefish in a day. At one of our camps, there have been some who reported up to 100 bonefish in a day. That's pretty remarkable when the world's average is only about 1 per day. At Cuba Travel U.S.A. we have selected about three different locations for our fishermen. We have a floating hotel (Cost is about $3500 per week plus transportation), we have live aboard boats (Cost is likewise about $3500 per week plus transportation) and we have nice hotels that our clients can choose from. Stay tuned....we helped the Cubans get started in the business of fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit. We think we can hone in on the best spots for the bones. Maybe you will want to help us? |
One of the other bone fishing destinations in Cuba is on Cayo Largo where there is a small fishing club with 4 boats and facilities for up to 8 fishermen. This is a destination that offers one of Cuba's most beautiful islands with about 7 hotels in addition to the fishing club. Fishing here is outstanding and one recent report was good quality bonefish up to 9 pounds being caught. One fisherman reported only one bonefish under 4 pounds during his stay. Lots of tarpon and many, many permit in this area. A paradise it is! Cost of this trip is $2900 for 7 nights / 5 days of fishing, plus the cost of getting to Havana. This is an Italian run operation.

The Tortuga
The third operation is the Tortuga, a floating hotel located in the Bay of Anna Maria. The facility will house up to 30 fishermen or scuba divers. This is the area that we opened with American fishermen in 1980. Many Americans know it as the Last Paradise Keys. Canadians know it as the Garden of the Queens and officially is is Jardines de la Reina. The boats are excellent as is the food and the Italian managers are lots of fun. Price is $3500 per person for a week long trip plus the cost of getting to the city of Jucaro, Ciego de Avila.

Explorador and Halcon
The above two live aboard boats work in connection with the operation of the Tortuga, mentioned above.

| The island of Cuba is about 780 miles long and there are at least 10,000 small islands and keys just offshore. Those are the kinds of places the bonefish calls his home. Where else can there be so many potential new destinations for a bone fisherman? Cuba Travel U.S.A. hopes to be at the forefront of finding such places. Maybe you will want to help us? Pope John Paul II has asked the world to open up to Cuba and for Cuba to open up to the world. Cuba is doing its part....now it is up to the rest of us to do ours. |
