Colony Hotel and Dive Center
Isla de Juventud, Cuba

Some of Cuba's best diving is found in the waters near the Colony Hotel. Diving is a major activity at the Colony hotel - located dozens of kilometers from Nueva Gerona, the region's capital - where boats can dock and vacationers can enjoy several diving programs, including underwater photography.
The Diving Center is located on a small Marina 15 miles from diving sites, so the typical daily program consists in two morning divings, lunch in a cozy restaurant on the sea, and enjoyment of a near beach between dives.
A multi lock hyperbaric chamber is available at the Diving Center. A physician specialized in hyperbaric medicine is ready to provide preventive services and diving diseases treatment.
El Colony Hotel is the lodging place with 77 air conditioned rooms, bathroom and TV. Restaurants, snack bar, sea bar and night club. Swimming pool, sport areas and waster sports. Medical services. Telephone and international fax: Rent a Car. Horse riding and other activities are available.
The area boasts a breathtakingly beautiful coral reef, a safe haven for numerous marine species, including tubular sponges, and where vacationers can enjoy cave diving, in addition to benefiting from the region's sulfurous waters.
Isla de Juventud, also called "the island of a thousand names" because of the many names it has had since Christopher Columbus discovered it and called it La Evangelista. The Indians called it Camargo, Guanaja and Siguanea. Governor Diego Velázquez called it Santiago. Others have called it Treasure Island (because it was where Robert Louis Stevenson set his famous novel); Cotorras (Parrot) Island, because of the abundance of parrots there; and the Isle of Pines. In the 1970s, because of the many schools in the countryside that were built there, its name was officially changed to Isle of Youth. It is the second largest island in the Cuban archipelago (2,357 square km. – 910 square miles). Its many attractions include the Punta Francés National Marine Park, Bibijagua Beach, the Los Indios-San Felipe Natural Preserve, the pictographs in Punta del Este caves, the Colony International Scuba-Diving Center, El Abra Farm and the "Model" Prison.
