Located on the westernmost tip of Cuba in Pinar del Rio, one will encounter some of the best SCUBA diving Cuba has to offer. The area is very well preserved and there is very little development.
The region has been declared Reserve of the Biosphere due to the treasures of its flora and fauna and for its sea and terrestrial landscapes. At Maria la Gorda, there are beautiful white sand beaches up against a backdrop of the Caribbean Sea.
The Villa is small and familiar, with 55 rooms, 20 of them are cabin, all with private bathroom, a living room, TV and mini bar , bathroom with cold and hot water, air conditioned and with a safe box. There is a buffet restaurant, a bar-cafeteria and and a a la carte restaurant specialized in sea food. Medical services. No credit cards are accepted. Other activities are limited to sight seeing nearby zones and enjoy the virgin natural environment of the Reserve, and fishing. Maria La Gorda is 304 km (190 miles) from Havana, and can only be reached by road.
The Maria la Gorda International Dive Center has its own Bauer compressor, 60 tanks and a full range of equipment. Two dedicated dive boats are available, one carries 10 divers and the other carries up to 20. All boats are fully equipped with a medical kit, oxygen and radio. There are four dive masters.
Expect to pay about $25 per dive.
